Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The preliminary task of which we have had difficulties acquiring was very rough and had little understanding as to where it was going. Now however, with our latest project there is a visible difference, a lucid knowledge of what it is and its audiences. This was achieved by learning the idiosyncrasies of the specific genre and what the fans expect. Many hours were spend in research of the genre and the audience whom enjoy this. We also learned to take more time and care in editing, though most importantly, filming. A movie is not made by great edits, but mainly, great shots.

Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

There have been various technologies used in the process of making our media product, the main technology/software we have used is final cut, final cut is a post editing software used to add after effects and make edits, we have made use of these facilities by using a various range of these effects such as slow motion for a section of our film. Also using sound effects and recorded sound to enhance the overall media product. Transitions have also been utilized in a variety of ways mainly in the form of a cross fade which is the main transition we use, but jump cuts have also been added to add suspense to parts that require it.

The embedding of this video initially did not work which is why we have used the link above to show our evaluation of our media product which answers all question bar two which will be written onto our blog.

Thriller treatment (kyle Preston)

Thriller treatment

my initial idea for my thriller opening was to be a hostage situation, starting with the ending of the film in the opening.
it starts with the victim alone in an isolated room and him wondering where he is and what he is doing there, and more importantly how the victim got there in the first place, after this section of the victim wondering where they are it returns to the opening of the film this consists of the victim being followed down an ally way by a mysterious stalker who doesn't reveal there identity at all, altho a glimpse of the stalker will be shown but not enough to make a positive identity i will further explain later on. The stalker begins to follow the victim down the ally way in a peculiar manner soon after, this following gives way to a chase scene involving the victim getting taken to the ground which is where we get our glimpse of the stalker, but still not enough to make a positive identification.

This scene gives way to the opening shot of the victim being held against his will in a dark room, which the location of this place is not revealed to the audience, to give it an enigmatic feel to the opening sequence

Sound Track

the soundtrack for our film was created by kyle Preston, it consists of various sound effects and synthesized instruments and orchestral instruments, the program that was used was protools 8, a studio grade recording and sequencing software for creating music.

The software uses uses VST Plugins for the for all the effects and instruments the main plugins i have used in this software is the Xpand module which came with the original package and a third party plug-in which i bought later on "East West Quantum leap symphony orchestra" which provides orchestral sounds and percussion instruments.

The central theme to the music was an eerie feeling towards the listener, this was created through ambient and effected sounds to make them sound otherworldly and out off place.
The orchestral samples that are used, are to give an element of suspense with the high strings timbre, this is to build up to the later scene of the victim being brutally injured, to a climax of suspense, then a sudden drop of tension to the last scene.

The music was written and created by Kyle Preston

movie Opening Plot Outline

Our opening begins with Kyle (Actor & group member) on the floor of a dark enclosed space. He is locked in here and this idea is presented by the paltry space and lack of sufficient lighting. He looks around the room to show how he does not know where he is and/or why he is there.
As the video begins to rewind we find ourselves 24 hours earlier. At this point we once again see Kyle, though this time, from a point of view shot (POV) and it seems as though he is being followed, or stalked. The stalker increasingly gets closer and we witness the clashing or the stalker, and the stalked. This tumultuous confusion ends up with another POV shot, though this time, from the eyes of Kyle. We realize now that this is how Kyle became entrapped in the initial room, and for those whom do not link these two happenstances we refrain back to the original room.

Treatment (Curtis S Jones)

Th1rt3eN
I shall speak initially about the title. I have had many ideas for titles and decided on this one for projects sake. I had to decide from a list of titles, all of which would have carried a slightly different take on the story and how the opening would pan out. This was my list to pick from; LoBoToMiZe
Xbiation
MonoLith
The Vindication
Detriment
and I ended on Th1rt3eN. I felt this was an extremely seminal take on a title that has been used in many forms before, though I am sure this is yet to be done. The number thirteen, as many know, is unlucky, and so the title sets the vital enigma though also a pseudo-inter textual reference, it reminds people of films with similar names and so they lend it their feel. (Thirteen and Friday the thirteenth) Though all the titles had a creepy feel, look or sound to them I felt that this one had it on a much grander scale, mixing numbers, with capitol letters and lower case letters is confusing and uncomfortable. The other names played with these a bit though dared not to imbue numbers into the name as well. I feel that with the link of number to word that the title works very well for a thriller.

The preliminary shot shall be pertaining to a company or producer that is involved, possibly CCP. Then it will fade open into a short POV shot showing what seems to be a person watching another from behind leaves of some sort. This will be accompanied by sounds of heavy breathing. The shot will fade, though keep the diagetic sound and shall reveal "In association with ...". During this the sounds will resemble motion of the POV character. As the shot returns to this character you see that he has moved closer to whom he was initially observing. This then fades to "Th1rt3eN". Whilst this is shown the breathing picks up, and you hear what seems to be the observer moving quickly towards the observed, noises of a "scuffle" and an injury. This makes the audience feel that the stalker-esque character has just killed or maimed the other character. When the shot comes back into focus however you see, still from the POV of the same character, that what we thought was actually wrong, as we are now looking up at the stalked who cuts the scene with a stomp of some sort. During this the shot will (hopefully) go from black & white, to coloured and back again, also other subtle effects will be used to make it look like the person who's eyes we are looking from is hardly conscious and extremely injured. All of this scares the audience and creates the all important enigma. First with the fear of what this person will do to who he is following and the tension build up during that, and then the shock and confusion of what just happened.

After this was written and presented we decided to change the name of the film project to "The Vindication" for various reasons XD
